Fringed Hill Road begins at Tantragee Saddle and can be accessed from Brook Valley or Maitai Valley.

Most of the climbing tracks are owned by Ngati Koata and managed by Tasman Pine Forests Ltd, so a permit is necessary to enter.  Annual permits are included with NMTBC membership  or you can get a free recreation pass  that covers you for Codgers/Maitai and Fringed Hill trails.  (NB The recreation pass does not cover Sharlands and does not entitle you to NMTBC member benefits).

Nelson City Council has provided parking/toilets/bike wash facilities for Codgers Trails at the Codgers Recreation Hub. Enter off Tantragee Road. Click here for Map.

In the Maitai Valley, you can park at the Maitai Hub, (at the Waahi Takaaro Golf Course) and climb up via the Te Ara Kopiko trail which will get you to the top of Trantragee Saddle and then on to the Fringed Hill Climb.

The other option if you just want to access just 629 or Mutleys is to ride or drive further up the Maitai Valley and park here. You then have two climb options 629 Smiths ford Climb (steep) which then links into the E Tu climbing trail, or you can go further up the Valley and do the Bob Taylor Road climb to E Tu (less steep)
